Teen Spotlight: Atharva Vyawahare

his story: Atharva enjoys serving his community, and has received several awards recognizing his service, including Student of the Month for Commitment and the Presidential Volunteer Service Award. He is involved in band, piano, and poetry at Austin High School. In 2015, he was awarded the title of  “Outstanding Student” by the AHS band and was a finalist in the school’s Poetry-Out Loud Competition for two consecutive years. Atharva is a valuable member of Interact Club, the Health Occupation Student Association, and the National Honor Society; he holds leadership positions in all three. When asked what advice he would give to someone entering high school, Atharva offered, “Challenge yourself but don’t overwhelm yourself.”

what’s next: “I want to become a CEO/CFO at a biomedical company. Biomedical Engineering is great because one can pursue research on two fronts – at the level of basic science and fundamental research, and at the level of clinical application.”

PG (parental guidance) rating: Atharva shares, “My parents have always been there to share both my happiest moments and saddest memories. They are my best friends, my source of inspiration, my guides and mentors. I look up to them with love, trust, and pride.” He is proud that his family is multilingual, explaining, “We are fluent in English, Hindi, and Marathi.”

parents’ perspective: Kailash remarks, “Atharva is a very smart and intelligent person. He never gives up and keeps working hard until he achieves his goal. He makes new friends quickly, which I am confident will last forever. He is so focused and loves to do everything with so much vigor.”
